my city

Posted in USA - new york tagged , , at 12:56 pm by Malia Yoshioka

i heart new york. i really do. the city that never sleeps, the big apple. busy, thriving, dirty, smelly, full of life, impersonal – call it what you will, but there’s never a dull moment in new york. i love this city.

times square, NYC

i know new york is not for everyone. it’s really big, big enough to get yourself lost in. yet at the same time, it’s small – and that’s what i love about it. i love that every neighborhood functions like a “village.” you get to know the people on your block – your butcher, the guy that makes keys, the people at the bar around the corner, the sushi delivery guy. you eventually know everyone by name. it’s downright charming.

every time i come back to new york, i feel like i want to live there. i want to know the butcher’s name and for the people at the coffee shop to ask if i want my “usual”. i want to keep up with the plays on broadway and off. i want to be steps away from anything i could possibly need. i want it all to be able to be delivered to my door at any hour of the day.

but alas, not this time. i helped kim unpack her boxes as she moved into her upper eastside palace (it’s huge by new york standards!) and i got to visit wendy’s pad in brooklyn. maybe someday… but not yet…
