vacation for a cause

Posted in home in hawaii tagged , , , , at 8:33 am by Malia Yoshioka

i just came across this article on the LA Times travel blog. lots of great deals on hotel stays, benefitting a good cause!

a bunch of waikiki hotels are participating, including the ultra-luxurious halekulani! packages all seem to require a 3 night stay, but include treats like spa treatments, dining credits ($150 at nobu!), yoga mats, surfing lessons, etc to give you more value in the rates… and a portion of the proceeds benefit the susan g komen foundation for breast cancer research. the packages are available til december (dates vary by location), so if you have a special occasion to celebrate it might be worth a look. maybe it’s time to plan that hawaiian vacation you’ve always dreamed of? and if you’re kamaaina, you can vacation in waikiki (play tourist) and not have to pay the crazy airfares to get away =)

speaking of good causes… our leukemia society fundraiser is tomorrow (sunday) at pipeline cafe in honolulu from 5-10pm. last year we had a great turnout – everyone enjoyed our free pupus, live music, and great raffle prizes from local businesses. let me know if you’d like tickets or to make a donation. every dollar raised brings us that much closer to finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers! email for details!

come support a great cause!

  1. Cancer is such a terrible disease. I just lost my mom to lung cancer about 6 months ago. I feel like a good vacation is in order but the way the economy is I just really can’t afford anything right now. But when things get better, I am going to start saving for a trip to the Bohol Island in the Phillipines. One of the biggest attractions of the island that attracts me is the Chocolate Hills which are a natural wonder!

    @ rhonda,

so sorry to hear about your mother. your plan for a trip to bohol island sounds great – i had never heard of the chocolate hills but just checked them out online. looks beatufiul!

and i definitely hear you about the economy… i’ve been job hunting recently and things are looking up, but i definitely feel lucky to have found something with the economy trending the way it is. it just seems like everything is falling apart. =( but maybe things can only get better from here? (crossing my fingers!)
