writer’s block

it seems like in the past few weeks i’ve had more opportunities than ever come up for ways to continue to focus on writing. but i find myself banging my head against that proverbial brick wall in trying to come up with something interesting to write! geez.

i guess it has something to do with the fact that i’m stationary at the moment. while i’m enjoying living on maui, the challenge of a new job, and being able to see my family every day, there’s that part of me that just wants to get up and go somewhere.

at first, i tried to see my hometown through a world traveler’s eyes. i tried to take it all in as if i’d never seen makawao before, never walked along front street, never rode the maui bus. but the novelty has worn off, and now – as much as i hate to admit it – i’m bored!

don’t get me wrong – living in hawaii is truly a blessing and i will always love maui. it’s my home! but i guess my life feels less interesting now that i’ve gone back to the normal working world (albeit still in “in-between” jobs) and, consequently, less worth writing about…

maybe it’s just a funk, or maybe it’s just this flurry of stress over the past few weeks, but something just feels off. who knows. maybe i just need to do something more interesting with my days off than sitting around in my pj’s all day. (isn’t that what days off are for? hehe.)

on a happier note though, the opening of our brookstone store this past saturday went well, and i’m really excited to see what the rest of the holiday season brings! even in a recession, it seems like people are already in the christmas shopping mood, so it’s really fun to show off all of our products since maui hasn’t had a brookstone store for a few years… let’s hope the rest of the season continues on as this first week has gone! =)

Hang in there, Malia…sometimes one needs a little “decompression time” to recharge and regroup?!

ugh…i know just how you feel. the things we gotta do to make a living…why couldn’t money just grow on trees?!?! *sigh*

Woah, dude. You don’t need to look for an adventure in Hawaii to have something to write about (not that you shouldn’t — I’d say go for it any day over siting around in PJs, (although there are days that I love to do nothing but that) and feeling bored). All you’ve got to do to spark some creative thought is randomly select a photograph from anywhere you’ve traveled in the last year, and start writing.

    @ mom & kim – thanks for the encouragement/commiseration

@ haifa – very true. great suggestion, and i’ll definitely try to do that sometime soon…

@ todd – chicken psychology? seriously. what are you smoking? haha.
